Without Vic Cairns’ leadership and vision, the restoration offish and wildlife habitat in Hamilton Harbour and much of itstrail system would not have happened. He joined the RemedialAction Plan writing team in 1985, and five years later organizeda three-day workshop that defined the fish and wildlife res-toration plan for Cootes Paradise and the Harbour. He remainsdeeply involved today in what has become the best-knownsuccess of the Harbour cleanup.
The project has been a catalyst for many of the trails andecological success stories of the Remedial Action Plan (RAP)including the Cootes Paradise marsh restoration, the WestHarbour Waterfront Trail, the wildlife islands in the north-east corner of the harbour, the LaSalle Park promontory andtrail, and the still developing work at Windermere Basin.
