Hamilton’s Environmentalists’ of the Year Award Committee is looking for individuals, groups and businesses who have taken an active role in environmental activity and leadership in Hamilton. The 2019 awards program did not go ahead as a result of the pandemic, and so the organizing committee will be taking nominations for both 2019 and 2020, until March 31, 2021.
Sponsored by the Conserver Society of Hamilton and District, Hamilton Naturalists’ Club, Environment Hamilton, Bay Area Restoration Council, United Nations Association in Canada -Hamilton Branch, Friends of Red Hill Valley, Iroquoia Bruce Trail Club and Royal Botanical Gardens, the awards are in their 42nd year. Recipients will be recognized during a virtual awards recognition event via Zoom during Environment Week in early June.
Nominations are being accepted for a variety of awards and previous winners are listed on this website. The Awards include:
- The Dr. Victor Cecilioni Award, presented to an individual in recognition of outstanding contribution to environmental activity and leadership, usually over a number of years;
- Awards of Merit that recognize excellence in environmental effort on particular projects, or over a number of years;
- A new Youth Environmental Award to be presented this year with the support of McMaster University, and,
- Environment Hamilton’s Betty Blashill Environmental Prize, which recognizes a deserving volunteer who supports local environmental action.
Nominations for all awards are due by March 31 and must be accompanied by a detailed nomination package. Information and forms can be downloaded here. The Betty Blashill Environmental Prize nomination form can be requested by emailing contactus@environmenthamilton.org.
Each year, Hamilton’s Environmentalists’ of the Year Award Committee recognizes the efforts of individuals, groups and businesses who have taken an active role in environmental activity and leadership in the city. Given the most recent suggestions about the duration and disruption associated with the pandemic, the Committee has cancelled the Awards program and recognition dinner for this year. Any nominations received so far will be automatically considered for Awards in next year’s program.
